AWD, 6-speed manual, turbo 5-cylinder, looks like a recipe for hoonage to me!

i actually test drove one of these. It wasn;t as exciting to drive as the WRX but it was nice. the one I drove was nasty gross on the inside and made some weird noises. the shifter is definitely odd as it looks like a bowling ball. I’d be afraid of the maintenance but its a contender. too bads that one is half way across the country.

well sure! i was talking more about the gate/boot/not even sure what you call that thing. looks like the shifter on a porsche pdk.

Y’all read the front page or skip right to Oppo? This is NPOCP today. But also, yes, go get it. I was looking for a V70R in this price range in May and came up empty... ended up with a Saab 9-3 SportCombi Aero which is pretty good but still lust for one of these.

I want one of these soo bad, but that price is about $1500 to $2000 more than I think this one is worth.

I figured it would be worth throwing out there for consideration. It strikes me as something that would be incredibly fun to drive.

Nothing a local Craftsman/Northern Tools/Harbor Freight can’t ameliorate.

I had a feeling that might be what you were talking about, although I’m shocked the thing is a manual (and thought that might be what you were alluding to). Manual Volvo wagons are pretty rare to begin with.

GAHHHH. If I didn’y by my Mazdaspeed6 back in June for the same price I WOULD BE ALL OVER THIS. And it’s local too. I may just have to go check it out for shits and giggles.

I spotted it on the front page, and remembered opposauruswrxless was searching for something along these lines, and thought I’d cross-post it here as well, ‘cause I just think it’s friggin’ cool. And a bit on the rare side. And a decent price.

All you need is a gallon of gas and a box of matches.

Price seems a bit high, but the market’s kind of slim for finding these machines.

Careful, that’s dangerous territory. You might end up having it follow you home...

I’m not sure I’d do that to this car, but there have been cars in my life I wanted to do that to. A certain ‘81 Scirocco that crapped out on me in this case...

Ah, got ya. It certainly is fricken cool. There as one about 2 hours from me a month ago for 8k and I was reaaaallllly tempted to get rid of my Saab for it but my wife would have killed me.

i think it could be but

“SON OF BITCH VOLVO R IS BAD CAR!! R IS FOR R EALLY BAD FOR WALLET!”

lol

same with an Audi. Last night discussing this stuff, my wife said you should buy that Audi wagon, it would be way more reliable than the 87 Land Cruiser.

*head scratch*

Now that’s a sentence I never thought I’d read. Audi more reliable than a Toyota....although a friend of mine does have a TT with 150K+ miles that’s running the factory clutch.

In that context, I can better understand what she’s saying. No matter the manufacturer, as parts get old they wear out. That said, I still had the Land Cruisers pegged as solid, reliable trucks.

i bet it would cost less to keep an 87 land cruiser on the road than a 2002 audi

It’s referred to as the “spaceball shifter” (on the volvos). I was very tempted by one a while back...but be very, very weary for reliability. Unless you’re able to do a lot of work yourself or are infinitely patient and have deep pockets, I’d advise you to go elsewhere. Especially given that these things are getting pretty old at this point.
